Tumescent Body Liposuction
Despite exercise and proper nutrition, as we age we gain fatty deposits. In women, the most common areas are outer thighs ("saddlebags"), inner thighs, knees and abdomen. In men, the most common areas are the abdomen and flanks ("love handles"). Liposuction, which uses a local anesthetic formula developed by a dermatologist, removes these fat deposits in an outpatient setting. At the Stanford Advanced Skin Care Center, we sculpt these fatty areas in a safe, effective manner without the patient having to undergo general anesthesia.
Recovery Time: Long weekend—though swelling and bruising may persist for 1 week.

Tumescent Neck Liposuction
Because of aging and genetics, many people develop fatty deposits in the upper neck. Using a local anesthetic, we can remove these deposits using a minimally invasive procedure. Your skin will also tighten giving your neck a smoother, cleaner look.
Recovery Time: Long weekend—though swelling and bruising may persist for one week.
Neck Platysmal Plication
Because of aging and genetics, some people develop bands in their neck, commonly referred to as a "turkey" neck. This is due to thickening and separating of a thin neck muscle called the "platysma." To correct this change, we make a small incision under the chin, trim the muscle as well as sewing it back together. At the Stanford Advanced Skin Care Center, this is performed under local anesthesia with sedation.
Recovery Time: Long weekend—though swelling and bruising may persist for one week.
Neck Suture Suspension
As we grow older, our necks tend to slope downward; the sharp angle between our head and neck sags. One method to sharpen this line underneath the chin is to make small, almost imperceptible incisions and suspend sutures which will lift the upper neck. This procedure is performed under local anesthesia, and is many times combined with either lasering, liposuction or platysmal plication.
Recovery Time: Long weekend—though swelling and bruising may persist for one week.
Leg Vein Reduction
Visible leg veins tend to run in families. If you have visible leg veins, you can reduce the number in the future by wearing compression stockings. Depending on the size of the leg vein, sclerotherapy—injection with a fluid will destroy these veins. For selected veins, laser therapy may also be effective. Multiple treatments may be required. For larger veins termed varicosities, we use ambulatory phlebectomy which is a minimally invasive procedure that destroys these veins. Treatment of leg veins doesn’t prevent others from appearing in the future.
Recovery Time: For injection or laser—none; though patients must wear compression stockings and avoid vigorous activity for five days. For ambulatory phlebectomy, down time can be from 1-2 weeks.
Hair Transplant
Because of age and genetics, many men and women lose their scalp hair which alters their appearance. While medications such as Rogaine and Propecia can reduce hair loss and sometimes increase hair growth, the most effective treatment for this type of hair loss is hair transplant. Hair is taken from areas that are not susceptible to loss. At the Stanford Advance Skin Care Center, we use the micro-graft technique based on the follicular unit to ensure the most natural looking hair line. To get optimal results, it may require three treatments. Up to 1500 grafts can be placed in a single session.
Recovery Time: Up to one week.
