What Are Cosmetic Procedures?

Cosmetic procedures which are also known as aesthetic procedures are techniques to improve physical appearance. Cosmetic procedures in some form have been performed for thousands of years. Before the advent of modern surgery, this often took the form of topical creams or make-up. While they may also help to improve one’s state of being, they are considered elective procedures rather than medically necessary.

Aesthetic procedures can vary from being minimally invasive such as microderm-abrasion or light therapies to those such as facelifts or laser resurfacing which require intensive postoperative care and time off. The trend in cosmetic surgery has been toward less invasive procedures while still producing a satisfying improvement. Because of this trend, people are undergoing cosmetic procedures at a younger age in order to maintain a graceful aging process.

At the Stanford Skin Care Center, we adhere to this philosophy using the latest techniques, while customizing the procedures to fit your specific needs.
